I guess I think it's pretty obvious, but I'm a unix weenie myself.  The
version of Linux shared libraries you have are out of date.  Get version
libc.so.6 instead of libc.so.4.

Apparently the older library doesn't contain all of the necessary symbols.

The problem you are experiencing would also occur in Linux, so it's not
a FreeBSD problem per se.
