Daring to challenge the will of the almighty Leviam00se,
Gunther Schadow (gusw@zedat.fu-berlin.de) had the courage to say:

: Hi all,

: I made a new installation of `uname -a`:

: FreeBSD ... 2.1.0-950726-SNAP FreeBSD 2.1.0-950726-SNAP #0 ...

: which I wanted to use as an NFS client. The appropriate parts of the
: kernel configuration are:

: options INET # InterNETworking
: options MROUTING # Multicast routing
: options FFS # Berkeley Fast Filesystem
: options NFS # Network Filesystem

MROUTING isn't necessary for NFS, but it doesn't hurt.

: The network runse fine, i.e. all inet services are well off:
: telnet/rlogin, ftp, ping, etc... But when I try to mount an NFS with
: the following command:

: mount -t nfs existing-host:/nfsdir /mnt

: I get the message:

: NFS Portmap: RPC: Program not registered

: Can anybody please tell me what I am doing wrong?

*groan*

This is hardly a FreeBSD-specific question, but I'll answer it anyway.

You've forgotten to configure existing-host as an NFS server. The
server host needs to run mountd and nfsd (that's nfsd, *NOT* nfsiod),
and it has to have a proferly configured /etc/exports file that grants
your FreeBSD host permission to mount the /nfsdir filesystem.
