"Archive Viper is a known rogue."

Means, that there are special hooks in the kernel to cope with the old
(SCSI-1) Vipers.  Either, use it in old mode (i didn't even know
they're delivered as SCSI-2 now), or remove the workaround in the
kernel.

Please, send us the _exact_ inquiry message of the drive (it's printed
at boot time when the drive is found, you can retrieve it later with
/sbin/dmesg).
