You know... that shouldn't happen.  If you post more details to the linux
newsgroups, you might get some help.  The reason I mention this is that
if you have a hardware problem, switching to freebsd won't fix it, and there
might be an easier way to solve your problem that rebuilding your
entire system.

you could put them on a floppy disk... (both will read msdos-format
floppies, i gather...)
