Hi,
I'm trying to install the FreeBSD 2.0.5-RELEASE
bin distribution from a floppy set.
I have copied all the bin.xy files onto floppies, 6 files / disk and
all in a bin-directory,
made the boot and root floppies. What happens is that I, at the
last disk, get

write failure on transfer (wrote -1 bytes of 10240 bytes).

The steps I took were
1. Reboot with boot floppy
2. Create 246Mb freebsd partition
3. Created slices and mount points:
/dos 160Mb (I have DOS installed since earlier)
     / 20Mb (Also tried with 55Mb (bin 36Mb+10x1.44Mb+some margin)
just in case, but same result)
     swap 32Mb
     /usr 194Mb
4. Chose 'only bin distribution (36Mb)'
5. Install from floppies
6. Commit
7. Install Boot manager
8. and off it went

It didn't complain until the floppy with bin.cc-ch files.
I tried with another floppy disk as the last one.

I have an 486DX2 OPTI chip set with 8/420, VLB QD6500SMC IDE-controller,
a SAMSUNG HD and a Teng W32p PCI VGA.

This is the first time I'm trying to install FreeBSD, so
please be gentle :)

Peter
