Answered both of these questions myself already, by finding the package 
at ftp://nimbus.anu.edu.au/pub/tridge/samba. It has built-in BSDI 2.0 
support. After 30 minutes of tinkering with conf files, it's running and 
I have my Win95 stations mounting Unix filesystems!
