The NCR seems to be no slower than the Adaptec,
but I didn't get reliable Adaptec performance
results under FreeBSD ...

The NCR keeps up with any current drive easily,
and with two drives you'll see some 8MB/s total
throughput through the file system (as reported
by 'Bonnie').

There is a benchmark comparing Sun, DEC and PC
machines, and the total throughput achieved on
a Pentium with 3 NCR controllers and five disk
drives was >22MB/s ... (see

    http://www-itg.lbl.gov/ISS/performance.ps
and
    http://www.geli.com/data/disk.perf.html

for reference).

According to the data I know about, the NCR is
at least faster than the BusLogic BT946C.

If anybody has access to both an AH2940 and an
NCR and can run Bonnie using the same drive on
each controller, I would be most interested in
the results ...
