Unfortunately, "easy upgrades" remain something that we can only hope to
offer in the future.  For now it's "back up your user files and install
from scratch" as the official line.  Sure, you can "upgrade in place" if
you really know what you're doing, but it's hard to come up with a cookbook
formula for doing this on *all* systems so we have to be conservative with
such a recommendation.
