Folks-
I recently got an Iomega ditto 420MB tape drive. I've been
having problems writing to the tape. I'm using the command:
tar -cvzf - /usr | ft "/usr save"
(from the manual) and ran into a 'unrecoverable write error on block 4800'
I thought it was the tape, and figured I'd reformat it later. Tried a
different tape, same write error. Any ideas?

Also, on the same subject, I went back into dos to reformat the tapes,
and they were going to take over four hours each. I didn't mind that
too much, but after 30mins, I checked the tapes, and they were really hot.
Is that normal? (Using the tapes on the dos side works find.)
Total stats are this:
486/dx2-80Mhz, Freebsd 2.0.5-REL, Iomega 420 tape drive with
QW 5122 preformatted qic-80 wide tapes.
