i have probably the same problem.  under FreeBSD-2.0, my PAS soundcard
and CD-ROM were both recognized automatically and worked great.

Under 2.05, the auto-detect in the startup won't take both the CD ROM
and the sound card at the same time.  becasue they use the same IRQ, once
my CD player gets probed, my audio device won't get found.  i can turn
off hte CD player nad the audio works fine.  not for playing CDs tho :)

there was a quiestion in the FAQ about multiserial devices using hte same
IRQ, but i wanst able to get both devices up even with that info.

sigh :(

should i quote my config file here? (it's at home)
