Summary: Having problems with my installation of 2.0R PLS HELP!
Keywords: 2.0R install bugs problems help request /var partition

Please advise/point me on following 2.0R install problems:

Configuration is: 250 mb FreeBSD on 408mb wd0, 899cyls, 4mb ram, 486sx.
MBR slice #3, after msdos primary and secondary (ver 6.22), FreeBSD
partitions made and assigned as: a 24mb /, b 16mb swap, g 200mb /usr,
and h 10mb /var.

Problem #1 My /var directory is always empty, and system reports many
errors relating to its (and its subdirectories/files) absence. A study
of O'Reilly's E.S.A. book says that "pass number" field values should
be sequential ( 1 2 3 ) NOT all the same ( 1 ) as mine. Afraid to alter.
This is in the file /etc/fstab. Also, what is /etc/fstab.wb (sp. ?)

Problem #2 When rebooting off boot floppy disk to investigate/fix
above problem, running Disklabel "forgets" all FreeBSD partition mount
points (only). So I have to re Assign, Write, Quit and proceed to
install all binaries from scratch. Another way to just view partitions?

Problem #1 addenda The /usr partition and mount point seem quite OK.

Problem #3 Only snafu I see during installation is warning message just
after telling system to delete /usr/temp, that I don't have a /usr/temp!

Problem #4 Other snafu is choice of adding "guest" account. Quick screen
of ominous messages disappearing too quickly bakc to "Config Menu".

Problem #5 Saw BRIEF message at reboot about "resizing wd1 d partition"
?? I never
ver incorporated wd1 into install (although I have one and it has
some unallocated cylinders).

Problem #6 Upon rebooting (and after problem #5 message) system takes me
back into "need to use FTP, NFS ... to get a bindist onto your ... "
AGAIN !?

Problem #7 When I run fsck ... Phase 5 - Check Cyl Groups reports:
CLEAN FLAG IS WRONG IN SUPERBLOCK FIX? I always answer y, but it remains.

Problem #8 When rebooting, boot prompt includes "Use ? for file list or
press Enter for defaults", being curious I tap ?, get a report, but at
next Boot: prompt it responds with "Invalid format!" no matter what.
