All I can suggest is that you upgrade to the "Aladdin" version
of Ghostscript (which is the non-GNU version as the GNU version
lags behind it by a year(?)) and try again. You can get version 3.33
from:

	ftp://ftp.cs.wisc.edu/pub/ghost/aladdin/

This does indeed work on FreeBSD and I have just placed a
binary taken from my FreeBSD 2.0.950412-SNAP box on the following
host:

	ftp://ftp.ukc.ac.uk/pub/rlh/binaries/gs3.33-FreeBSD-2.0.tgz

feel free to try it out!
