The current version doesn't support the ATI chipset.  The next release
will have support for the ATI SVGA chipset (but not 8514/A).  I

Contrary to what someone else posted, the current X386 will not drive
a generic VGA card in 640x480 (or any other resolution).

The next release (XFree86 1.1) will also have support for the Trident
8900C chipset, and will include a monochrome server that should run on
most generic VGA cards.  Support for 386BSD is also greatly improved.
This version is in beta-test at the moment, and will probably be released
at the end of the month.
