Well, the European (CCIR?) HDTV standard (not proposal) is set at 1250
lines. These are gross, of course - some of the `lines' happen during
vertical flyback - but I believe that it would have at least the
same ratio of data lines to total lines that the old 625 line standard
has, which would imply at least 1160 lines.

Wouldn't it be nice if the US would just adopt an existing standard,
