Subject: Can't fdisk and label a second disk

I try to newfs a second SCSI disk for two days now.
My old system was gone after a kernel crash tried to save
the core.

All I get from 'fdisk' is a:

ioctl DIOCWLABEL: operation not supported by device

I know that the drive is ok because it is my former source disk.
I use the 2.0.5-RELEASE kernel. I also tried the new 2206-SNAP.
