Here is the original post.

Every user of the Netscape Navigator v1.1 for X will have a
	.netscape-bookmarks.html, .netscape-history, .netscape-preferences
	files, and a .netscape-cache directory.

The .netscape-preferences file corresponds to the preferences
listed under the options menu. This is where Netscape Nav.
reads config information on startup. Within this file are
designations for both personal AND GLOBAL mailcap files. The
global file is read first, then the personal files are read
and overwrites any conflicts. To tell Netscape where to find
global mailcap and mime.types files, type in the path in the
helper applications section under the preferences section
under the options menu. OR, you can edit the file directly:
MIME_TYPES: /usr/netsite/mime.types
PERSONAL_MIME_TYPES: /home/amueller/mime.types
MAILCAP: /home/amueller/.mailcap
PERSONAL_MAILCAP: /usr/netsite/.mailcap

If you, as a sys admin, want to alter/add/delete MIME types,
or mailcap entries, edit the files in /usr/netsite (or wherever
they really are). If you need to move the files, all you need
to do is make a link (man ln) in /usr/netsite to the new file.

The cache is also set in the .netscape-preferences file. As
sys admin, you have no control over users' settings other than
setting a default in the file before distributing the file to
users, who could then reset it right away.
