Using bsdi 1.1 i found that it needed changes in sliplogin to do this
(Or ppp if you liked that)

Our solution was to buy Morningstar ppp, it has all the features needed
to do dynamic addressing (it also had a lot of other nice features)

Morningstar are working on a port to bsd/os 2.0, ask them for avail.
