This is a religious question.  Also, you would have to first define the
term "better."  If you mean, "closer to DOS EDIT", then yes, pico would
be your choice.  If you ever want an editor that can do macros in any
language, that is infinitely configurable and fast, give vi a try, and
perhaps get the file:
