I know purify isn't ported to FreeBSD. Is there anything like
   it that is?

Insure from parasoft is available for Linux. Supposedly it's a better
tool that purify, but requires an order of magnitude more effort to
use. (I personally haven't used either) Parasoft is located in Pasadena
or Monrovia or some such Southern Cal locale, so 1-800-555-1212 will
be your friend.
