Far be it from me to wave the GNU flag too vigorously around these
parts -- lest the Berkeley License fanboys suffer apoplectic aneurisms
as a result of the breeze -- but that gcc produces code which is within
a few percent of the likes of Sun's and SGI's compilers (which optimise
out the wazoo), and that across a wide range of platforms, seems quite
impressive to me.
