I had a problem with my IDE controller card and had to replace it. When
I bought the new one, I got a "Promise Enhanced IDE 2300 Plus" which
is clearly better than the one I had before. But, since then, I have
not been able to boot on the hard drive in FreeBSD. Instead, right
after

>> FreeBSD BOOT @ 0x100000 636/7168 k of memory
     .
     .
Boot:

Normally then you see the spinning |, /, -, \ thing, but I just
get a single |. Then the system freezes and even Control-Alt-Del
does nothing.

So, can someone please tell me: HOW CAN I GET A SHELL USING ONLY
THE FLOPPY DRIVE? All my files are inaccessible until I figure this
out. I know the files are still there, but I can't touch them.
I tried the "fixit" mode, but when it rebooted, the hard drive
still did not work.

Does someone have any ideas? Please respond by mail.

Thanks,
Bryce
