You should try boot the default (2.0 I assume) kernel
using the -c option.

The -c option drops you into an interactive editor before probing the
devices, and allows you to change any of the settings on any of the
devices..

In your case you could set the port, irq and memory addresses for the
ethernet card to match your board. Then once you are up
you can compile a kernel with those settings..
(otherwise you would need to do it on each boot)
