You might also find the mailing list helpful if you get into this.

And yes, the documentation is a little weak when you first get started.
But hell, I'd rather have the programmers improve the product than
fool around with documentation :-).  Seriously, I'd be happy to help
once you got the distribution.  Unfortunately, there may be some
problems with MacBSD on a IIsi still.  Check out the materials
on the mailing list and ftp site, and if everything's a go, email
me and I can walk you through the installation.
