I have apparently fallen victim to a net.urban.legend, as others
have already pointed out.

I responded by acknowledging the "legendary" nature and suggesting
we move on to discuss the point of "telco's move slowly" rather
than picking on the example.

Disproving an example does not disporve a point, since absence of
evidence is not evidence of absence.  Avoid using the example as a
strawman, please.
