I got mine working together with a wd8013 ETB Elite 16 bit card.
Its a ne1000 (klone).

Works so la la. I had lots of reject 65xxx messages one time when I  was doing bit ftp transfers over the gateway (Yes, I have enable the kernel GATEWAY option). Performance could be better - I have seen enhancements posted here
but 'the dog ate it'.

Could the one who posted a ne1000/2000 driver enhancement please re-post
or leave a mail. Thank you.
