I am also having problems with PPP. I am using FBSD 2.0, off the
Walnut Creek CD. I have compiled two different kernels - one using the
supplied GENERIC config with ppp added:

 pseudo-device ppp 2

And one starting from the supplied 'IPFIREWALL', adding:

controller ahc0 at isa? bio irq ? vector ahcintr

to make my discs work.

Both of these work fine with local Ethernet etc. but after bringing up
a PPP link, a kernel panic occurs:

Fatal Trap 12, page fault while in kernel mode
...
current process = pppd

For the 60 seconds or so before it blows up, the PPP is working fine,
the routing works (I am using the 'defaultroute' option to pppd)
and I can telnet, ftp etc.

The panic seems to happen slightly quicker with the 'IPFIREWALL' kernel
than the 'GENERIC+PPP', but it's hard to be sure.

Any ideas greatly appreciated! - what's different between my system and
those of you that have it working?

Hardware is 486/66, 16Mb, Adaptec 2842 VESA + 1Gb + CDROM, SMC Ultra Ethernet,
16550 COM ports, Western Digital VGA, IDE disc fitted but not in use.

Andrew Gordon.
