No, routing is done via RIP or NLSP.  RIP has problems, but NLSP should
be much better.
My point is that these mechanisms are not part of IPX, but are the
routing protocols that are run in addition.

IPX plus RIP is no worse than IP plus RIP, in fact is has better metrics.
Nobody would run RIP in a large network, so why do you compare IPX+RIP
with IP+some better routing protocol?

I agree there are problems with IPX and the protocols on top of it, but
so are there with IP.  For example, the severely limited address space.
NFS is not very efficient, and very insecure.

Seeing only the disadvantages of IPX and the advantages of IP seems to
be very popular.
I have done investigation for selection of routers to be used between
branch offices (over slow leased lines and ISDN) and I agree IPX and NCP
are not optimal.  But tests with IP and NFS in the same environment did
not come out any better.
