: OK, where can I get the source to cpio to compile on my DECstation so it works?
: I have endian problems doing this on my DECstation.
I am working on a Decstation running Ultrix 4.2 on Mips 3000. Our machine should
be similar.
I've posted this solution already in another thread called cpio fix.
People should read previous posts and if you still have questions, just email
me.

The solution is to use -C option which means to use old BSD cpio format.
I have succeeded to compile my kernel with minor modifications due to missing
vers.o file.

my method was to use
cpio -idalmC usr/src/sys.386bsd

I do not extract usr/src/include

My main problem now is the insufficient swap space of 7 Mbyte.
The 5 Mbyte swap which is the default in 'install' is sufficient to rebuild
kernel.

A lot of questions are also my questions. I just try out various options and
study source codes.
