I know I've seen the occasional post about staircase printing input
filters posted, and I've read the Printing How-To, so I've seen theirs
as well as some notes on using gs as a postscript filter for non-ps
printers like my HPLaserJet4L... but when a computer virus recently
made me rebuild my Linux from scratch, rebuilding the print filter in
the spool has taken up way too much of my time compared to everything
else.

Is there some nice shell hacker out there who has a clever script for
doing (either or both) staircase and postscript filtering for a 4L
suitable for sticking in the printcap of all us owners of similar
printers? Could you post same? Are printcap/filter example entries
published anywhere else?

Thanks,

Steve
