Thanks for this advice.

It was eventually tracked down to a printf statement in
/sys/i386/isa/if_ec.c. Removing this made my bootups *look*
a lot happier.

On another note...Does anyone have a UK Keyboard equivalent of
pccons.c? Or will I have to modify it myself?

(I note, BTW, that the Uk keyboard does not actually have a back
quote on it -> ` is a hash on my keyboard).
