: Sorry, Herb, but it was posts about things like "my level of
: emotional maturity is higher than yours" that torpedoed the
: merge attempts. That, and Jordan's "welcome to my killfile, Herb"
: post.

: Much as I respect both of you, you're providing an example in
: microcosm as you post.

: Lest anyone wonder, I have full archives of both discussions, and
: can (but won't) provide examples from both sides of the fence --
: actually, I also have some 8x10 glossies of the fence building
: itself (current example included).

: I'd say that fully 3/4's of the members of both camps are probably
: still pro-merge (but won't be after the "merge 'discussion'" this
: post will probably now provoke on the part of well intentioned
: readers). Personally I was never anything *but* "pro merge".

I'd like to see a migration, too. A unified BSD community would
have so much advantages...

It's - with respect to both camps - ridicoulous that two parties
are nearly working on the same thing and do invent the wheel again
and again. Ok some merges happen from time to time, but if both
developement teams would work on one source it would certainly be
a big advantage for everybody ...

This would be a big chance to get the best from both releases
into one release.

I think it would also be a big deal with respect to the fact, that
Linux popularity is growing nowadays ...

If both camps would work together, many thing certainly could
be done quicker and perhaps in better quality (although I must
say, that quality is already very good in the BSD world).

Why not trying to remove the fences between both camps ?!
Is it so different ? Perhaps a good goal for 1995 ?! ;-)

One BSD for many platforms ... with the nice Install floppies
from FreeBSD ... merged fixes ... merged enhancements ... more
freetime for all developers, becaus then you'd be more people
to make it ;-) More time for your girlfriends or family ;-)
More time to drink more beere.

Couldn't that be an incentive for doing this ?

	Open Minds -> OpenBSD 3.0 ?! ;-)

Just a guess ;-) Furthermore, so I could use _one_ free OS for my SS2
and PC at home ;-) What an advantage for everybodies techno park at
home ;-) ;-)
