I'm having trouble getting a tape backup working with FreeBSD 2.0.

The machine is a 486-66 with 32megs of ram. Controller is Adaptec
1542CF. Tape drive is Exabyte 8500.

It appears I can write to the drive ok (I don't get any errors when
tar'ing to it). But when I try to 'tar tf' it:

	1. tape motor starts up, lights flash, looks like it's doing
	   what it's supposed to.

	2. after about 5 seconds the hard drive activity light goes
	   on and stays on.

	3. I get the following error, continuously repeated:

		sd0(aha0:0:0): timed out
		adapter not taking commands... frozen?
		debugger("aha1542") called

	4. The only way to get out of it is to power cycle the computer.

The drive was recently in the shop for repair and works fine on a Sparc.
I've also tried another drive and got the same results.
