I experienced the same problem - it took me almost two days of swearing (quietly) about those installation floppies , before I found out that they work just fine if I write them on another machine (a DECstation). Another way to work around this floppy trouble might be to boot 1.1.5 and untar FreeBSD 2.0 into new partitions by hand.
