I experienced the same problem - it took me almost two days of swearing
(quietly) about those installation floppies , before I found out that
they work just fine if I write them on another machine (a DECstation).

Another way to work around this floppy trouble might be to boot 1.1.5
and untar FreeBSD 2.0 into new partitions by hand. (Thats the route I
took before I found out about to get the floppy readable :)
