It's possible with Linux and FreeBSD. If you want real Linux install a
real Linux, if you want a real FreeBSD, install a FreeBSD. ... ;-)

Best would be to install both, and then decide yourself.

The next question concerning Linux is certainly, which distribution
to choose ... (Slackware, LST, Yggdrasil, ...)

With FreeBSD it would be more simple, if soon 2.1 would be available,
the releasy we are all waiting for because of [ lots of nice things ;-)
] So now:

   - You want something rock solid: choose 1.1.5.1
   - You want 4.4 BSD Lite based fast, solid, up to date: 2.1

   - You want get an imagination of a 4.4 BSD Lite based fast, solid,
up to date Version 2.1: choose 2.0R or a newer snapshot
     between 2.0R and 2.1 ;-)

Short:	Install Slackware 2.1.0 - Try it
Install FreeBSD 2.0R	- Try it
Install NetBSD 1.0	- Try it

After that: think of what you really need and choose ...

I hope, think, .... BSD 2.1 will definitively be a good production
release. Together with the O`Reilly 4.4 BSD Lite handbooks you have
a nice OS together with nice documentation to an acceptable price !

Best regards
