Just a note here on an ethernet problem:  The driver for the 3c509 card 
doesn't seem to be able to initialize the 10BaseT port properly.  However, if 
you change the mode on the card to AUI (using the 3com utils) and use an 
external transciever, it works like a champ.  This was at I/O 0x200 and IRQ 10.
