You remember "hearing" something about it? When the institution
right under your feet has dozens of NetBSD/hp300 machines, I'm 
surprised you haven't noticed them.

In any event, NetBSD/hp300 is a freely available port of 4.4Lite
that runs on hp300's and hp400's...

You can also try to find Jason Downs or Patricia Bartley at CSOS (and/or CS)
and they can probably help you get setup.
