Well, I've worked around this: altho the FreeBSD installation floppy
doesn't let one drop to shell, the _NetBSD_ one does. So, I boot with
the NetBSD installation, drop to shell, mount the FreeBSD-newfs'd h/d,
ifconfig, and ftp'ed sysinstall onto the hard disk in /stand. Reboot, and
voila!

Provided, of course, that you have a compatible network card, and can
somehow get sysinstall from the floppy to an ftp'able location. I
already have a working 2.0 system, so the floppy part is no problem.
(If it is a prob for you, send me an email, and we'll see what we
can do.)
