I am also having problems installing FreeBSD 2.0, but my problems are of a
different nature. I also have an Ultrastor controller, but mine is a 24F
on an EISA/VLB Motherboard. My problem is this: the installation won't
recognize by hard disks (and my controller, for that matter). This setup
works fine with DOS and two versions of OS/2 (2.1 for windows and 3.0). I
have checked the termination on both ends, I have tried several different
boot floppies, I have verified with the EISA configuration utility that my
board is configured correctly, and I still can't get it to work. I wrote
to bugs@freebsd.org, and one of them sent me a new boot disk that put out
information about the card. It got the right manufacturer and model
number (USC024). (I haven't gotten anything back from them in a week,
after mailing them the output of the modified kernel). Interestingly,
when it says that it cant find my controller (uha0), it says that it can't
find it at 0x330. EISA uses a 4 digit port address, though (or something
like that). It states in the release notes that FreeBSD works with the
Ultrastor 14F, 24F, and 34F, but in the FAQ it says only the 14F and 34F
are supported. Is it impossible (or close to it) for the 24F to work with
FreeBSD, or am I just doing something wrong? I really don't want to
install Linux.
