It's almost time to split this group into comp.unix.bsd.questions,
comp.unix.bsd.wizards, and comp.unix.bsd.flames.

assuming that this has worked in the past, your problem is probably in the
controller, cabling, or drive.

this is just the result of a HALT instruction executed by /boot after printing
the message above.

this is something only VMS cares about.

this is just the long bumpy way down for all that iron as it settles.
your real and only problem (from this display) is "wrong drive type".

if you're comfortable running the low level diags, you can start there.
you could try a different disk drive if you have more than one that's bootable.
my 8600 experience tells me that you will need to call field service.
