I've seen some machines that handle this by having more than one line
groups with many members.  For example:

biggroup:*:42:first-part-of-the-list
biggroup:*:42:second-part-of-the-list

I've never taken a close look at this practice or checked to see how common
it is, but you might see if your machine will allow it.
