Okay, I think we're unintentially diverging here. Let me bring back a
little focus, and also bring up another specific gripe.

To change the domain name permanantly... you have to go delving into the kernel
directory tree.. change a variable.. and _recompile_. Then you have to
reboot the machine.

Why should I have to fire up a compiler just to change the domain-name?
And while we're at it, why should I have to rebuild the kernel at all?
