I doubt we'll *realize* that. :-)

FreeBSD is trying to be a 'damn good OS', same as Linux. However, most
of us are not GPL fanatics, and believe that if you are going to give
something away, then give it totally away. However, since we are mostly
prideful folk, we prefer that we at least get credit for writing when
some commercial OS users our work. They can use it for *whatever*
purpose they want, including sell binary copies and make a gazillion
dollars from our work.

[ No wars on whether it's right or wrong to do things that way, that's a
*choice* the developers made, and it's our right to hold that *opinion* ]

That and the fact the BSD is based on years of research and has proven
to be very stable in almost all parts of the system makes BSD a great
platform for being a 'damn good OS'. Feature for feature BSD is in the
same league as Linux. There are areas where we are weak, and areas
where we are strong, but as a whole we can match Linux.

It's as much a contendor in the free OS field as any, and giving people
options is never a bad thing. Competition (if it can be called that
since nobody wins or loses anything) is always a good thing.
