BTW is it correct to have shutdown (or any other program you need to
shutdown or to stay in single user mode) in a subdirectory of /usr if
these directories are not part of the root partition ? I don't think so.

I moved elvis into the root partition, too. When your system can't
mount /usr (because it's normally mounted via nfs, for example) you
will know why I did so. :-)
