Subject: Has anbody compiled xrn on FreeBSD 1.1 ?

Hello,

I tried to get xrn for FreeBSD 1.1 running. I tried both 6.17 and
6.18something .

After some tweaking 6.17 got stopped when compiling the lex/yacc output.
I gave up on this since I know virtually nothing on lex and yacc.

I got 6.18 to compile (also after some minor changing) but it stops
at link stage not finding the sympols _re_exec and _re_comp - but
I didn't findf thos symbols - neither in the xrn source nor in the
complete FreeBSD source tree... so I guss the problem is something else...

Also, are there alternative suggestions for a good X-Based nntp-
newsreader ? I checked out the precompiled Vnews, but this thing
needs several minutes on startup and nearly 6 MB of memory - I guess
it tries to read, analyse and hold the whole .newsrc in memory, which brings
my poor little 386/40 with 8 megs to his knees... :-(

Regards

Christoph Weber-Fahr
