Gulp. I just bought an Adaptec 2940W controller card with the PC I just
ordered today (I got it 'cuz the onlyi other scsi controller the company
had was an NCR card and I was quite sure I've never seen that one mentioned
   in conjunction with freebsd/netbsd).

Is this the PCI NCR 8x510 card? If so, it's supported.

The 2940W is supposed to be the fast/wide scsi-3 controller. Is it possible
(oh please, please) that there is support for this under either freebsd
   or netbsd?

Sorry, no. You should contact the company where you bought your
computer and see if they'll exchange it for a BusLogic controller (or
that NCR PCI controller if you have PCI). Incidentally, a true wide
SCSI controller doesn't work with standard SCSI drives, but requires
wide drives as well as a wide controller (just so you know).
