Hi Michael,

The last relevant messages which I get on startup are :

mcd0: version information is 10 D 2
mcd0: Adjusted for newer drive model
mcd0 at 0x300-0x303 irq 10 on isa
mcd1 not found at 0x340
ed0 not found at 0x280
ed1 not probed due to I/O address conflict with mcd0 at 0x300
ie0 not probed due to irq conflict with lpt0 at 7
is0 not probed due to irq conflict with mcd0 at 10

No cdrom drive found, are you sure the cd is in the
drive and the drive is ready ? Press return to make
another attempt at finding the cdrom drive.

Needless to say that the cd is in the drive, and the drive is
ready (the 'busy' light is off). Also, during the boot-sequence
of the FreeBSD kernel, the drive's light goes on and off, so it
_is_ being 'probed' (?) by the kernel ?

I have tried using the 'kcopy-ah' boot-image, the 'cdins' (? can't
remember the exact name anymore, the cd is at home) boot-image, and
a boot-image that I found at an ftp site (again, can't remember the
exact name of the site or of the image, it's been awhile since i did
this and i have almost given up out of sheer frustration ;-(
I have the impression that this last boot-image is the 'best', that is,
I can't remember seeing the "mcd0: Adjusted for newer drive model"
message appearing in any of the other boot-images.

Any help appreciated (especially the name of the 'special boot-
diskette' specific to the fx001d which you mentioned ?),
