My hardware is:

    Dell Dimension XPS P90 PCI 256K 16M
    Quantum LPS540A IDE 540M

The problem is that the Quantum drive geometry is:

    1120cyl 16hd 59sec 512B/sec

The standard FAQ advice is to give FreeBSD the controller geometry
rather than the BIOS geometry. The BIOS geometry was something
real weird, and then I found out from another FAQ that this Quantum
drive also supports:

    1024cyl 16hd 63sec 512B/sec

What does this mean?

Well, I tried setting the BIOS CMOS geometry to these values, but I
am not sure if it is okay. "ide_conf" still returns the first
values, not the second. "pfdisk" seems to indicate that there is
some translation going on.

Any suggestions?
