   Either XFree-86-3.1 didn't fix this known problem in imake or
   you haven't applied the patches properly. 

Xfree86 3.1 fixes this problem. I suspect that there was some problem
in the patching operation (Did you start with a patchlevel 5 X11R6
tree ? the fixes to imake were in fact included in patch 4 or 5, I
don't remember).
