The virtual width must currently be >= 1024.  I hope to have this
restriction removed in 3.1.1.  I wonder why nobody complained about it
before 3.1 was released.  The real restriction is on the logical line
width which is currently tied to the virtual width.  It doesn't have to
be.

There is nothing stopping you setting the virtual height to less than 768.

Why pass up an excuse for a bigger screen? :-)
