A slight addition:  Another part of the settlement with USL specifies
that their next release be based on BSD 4.4Lite.  This will remove all
USL proprietary code from the kernel, so there won't be any object-only
files from this issue.  I'm not sure what the release date is for
that, but I think it's in the next couple of months (if anyone knows
better, please correct me).

I expect this won't have any effect upon the various parts of the
kernel covered by NDAs with other companies.  (but those are usually
just device drivers, anyway)
